The Central Ohio businessman accused of financial crimes appeared in a Dubai courtroom today after being caught fleeing the country, but it is not clear how he will be defended.
Attorney James Jatras says he spoke briefly with Zack Shahin at the hearing after his local attorney did not show up, and it is unclear if he is still representing Shahin. Jatras is not certified to defend Shahin in Dubai. Shahin was held for four years without trial on charges of financial improprieties as executive of a Dubai-based development company. He denies any wrongdoing. Shahin was released on bail in July. He then fled to Yemen, and was again detained.
