An associate of white nationalist Richard Spencer is suing the University of Cincinnati over fees for his upcoming speech.
Tana Weingartner of member station WVXU in Cincinnati reports.
Spencer's attorney is asking for two million dollars and a jury trial alleging UC is charging too much for Spencer's planned visit in March. According to the federal court filing, UC wants more than ten-thousand dollars for security fees and costs. The lawsuit says that infringes on Spencer's free speech rights and calls the criteria used to set the price unconstitutional. UC is standing by the fee calling it "a mere fraction" of what the university expects to spend. Richard Spencer is a white supremacist who threatened to sue UC and Ohio State if he wasn't allowed to speak on campus. UC relented and offered a date that falls in the middle of spring break. There is a lawsuit pending against OSU.
