State And Police Offer Holiday Shopping Tips

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine is offering consumers some holiday shopping tips. He says retailers must clearly inform customers of "no return" policies before a purchase is completed. Ads for holiday sales should clearly disclose important exclusions or limitations, such as limited quantities, restricted sale hours and "no rain checks." Gift cards that may be redeemed more broadly may depreciate in value quicker than those tied to a single store. Paying with a credit card usually offers greater protection, such as limits on a consumer's responsibility for unauthorized charges and the ability to dispute charges. Local police advise shoppers to be aware of their surroundings, keep valuables out of sight in locked vehicles and avoid carrying large amounts of cash.  Those who holiday shop online are reminded to use secure websites for purchases and get delivered packages off the porch as soon as possible.
