State Education Official Resigns

The Ohio Department of Education's associate superintendent is resigning as officials investigate whether school districts improperly manipulated attendance and enrollment data.William Zelei led the department's school accountability division. Zelei says he was asked months ago to lead the Ohio Schools Council, a cooperative purchasing consortium for districts. He says the move gives him an opportunity to move closer to an ill relative. The department says Zelei's plans are not related to the data investigation or recent resignation of Superintendent Stan Heffner.
