State Proposing New Ginseng Regulations

wikipedia.org

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is reviewing proposed new ginseng regulations as the number of Ohioans digging and selling the medicinal root increases. The department says 70 ginseng dealers were registered in Ohio last year, up from 49 in 2013. The number of ginseng diggers rose from 46 hundred in 2013 to more than 89 hundred last year.  Officials are discussing charging a fee for annual dealer permits, and considering whether diggers should be required to receive and pay for a permit. The department will hold a meeting in March for public comment on possible regulations. The dried root is worth as much as 800 dollars a pound.
