State Rejects School Prayer Ballot Petition

religionandpolitics.org

The Ohio Attorney General's office has rejected the petition for a proposed ballot measure allowing students to pray in public schools. The office says it contained a "technical defect" regarding how certain petitions were labeled. The amendment says school children have the right to pray or acknowledge their religious beliefs voluntarily, and schools should display the Bill of Rights. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled school prayer violates the Constitution's separation of church and state clause.
