State Says Troubled Prison Food Services Contractor Saving Taxpayer Dollars

The Correctional Institution Inspection Committee says the state is saving more than 10 million dollars a year by using a private company to feed inmates, but complaints have sharply increased. The agency says food services costs fell by 18 percent last year from 2008 to 64.5 million dollars.  More than 75 percent of inmates report having negative views about Aramark Correctional Services, which took over food services for the state prisons department three years ago.
