State Withholds Business Tax Refunds

Ohio Inspector General Randall Meyer says the state department of taxation has failed to return more than 30 million dollars in business tax refunds to companies that properly requested the money. Meyer says 34 million dollars in requested refunds dating back to at least 1999 were placed on pending status and therefore not paid out. Meyer says that is a violation of state tax law. He says the department also failed to inform businesses of any overpayments. Last year, as the investigation was being conducted, the agency said it would begin alerting businesses and help them reclaim their money.
