Statehouse Holocaust Memorial Moves Forward

Progress continues on the Holocaust memorial being planned for the Ohio Statehouse grounds.

Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board subcommittee on Wednesday accepted a recommendation to hire Daniel Libeskind  of New York as the artist. The full board is set to vote July 18. The privately funded, $2 million project is believed to be the first Holocaust memorial at any U.S. statehouse. A spokesperson says the next step is estimating site-preparation costs and getting the money included in the state budget. Libeskind's design features a limestone path toward two unconnected, upright panels positioned at an angle, with cutouts on the nearer edges so that visitors gazing through the gap see the outline of a six-pointed Star of David.
