Steubenville Schools Placed On Lockdown

Jan 8, 2013

All public schools in Steubenville were placed on lockdown this morning after district officials said they received a shooting threat via social media.

Superintendent Mike McVey says the lockdown is precautionary, and police officers are searching school buildings. He says the students are still in classes. The city has been the center of controversy following rape accusations made against two high school football players. The case has set the Internet ablaze with the hacker group Anonymous spearheading accusations that Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla is trying to protect the football team in his investigation.
