State regulators and independent scientists are working to determine whether an earthquake in Weathersfield on Sunday has any connection to nearby fracking wells. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Columbia University scientists are studying the cause of the 2.1-magnitude quake, and a determination should be made by week's end. Two wells for the disposal of fracking wastewater received permission to operate near the epicenter in March. The citizens group Frackfree Mahoning Valley called for an immediate halt to well operations.
