The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled early voting in Ohio may not start until next week. The justices have voted along party lines to grant a request from state officials to delay a federal district judge's ruling that lengthened the early voting schedule. Early voting was to have started today. Ohio Public Radio's Jo Ingles reports.
The ruling will remain in effect until the court acts on an appeal by state officials. And since that appeal has not yet formally been filed , it means the Golden week, when Ohioans can both register to vote and cast a ballot at the same time, will not be allowed. This ruling also puts some weekend and evening voting hours in jeopardy. If the court doesn’t rule against the state in the near future, the weekend voting hours will be limited to the last two Saturdays and the one Sunday before Election Day.
