Suspect In Local Bank Robberies Pleads Guilty

Springfield Police

A Columbus man has pleaded guilty to charges of robbing banks in Springfield and Reynoldsburg. Federal prosecutors say 30-year-old Lawrence Bell Junior was armed when he robbed the two banks in July of last year. No one was injured. Police arrested Bell in South Carolina in January. He'll be sentenced on two counts of bank robbery and two firearms-related counts. Prosecutors say the plea deal includes a recommended 24 years in prison. Bell was also accused of robbing banks in Columbus, Mount Vernon, Chillicothe and Zanesville.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
