Terhar Criticized For Post

State Board of Education President Debe Terhar is taking heat for a post on her personal Facebook page.  Terhar posted a picture of Adolf Hitler along with a quote critical of restrictions on gun control. Now some liberal groups are calling for her resignation. StateImpact Ohio’s Ida Lieszkovszky reports.

Terhar posted an image of the Nazi leader with a mis-attributed quote that says,: “Never forget what this tyrant said, ‘to conquer a nation, first disarm its citizens.’”

The item came from a conservative website critical of President Obama’s gun control proposal.
In an statement, Terhar says she regrets the consequences of carelessly sharing the picture and I will be more selective in her use of social media.  She maintains she was not comparing the president to Hitler.
But not everyone is buying that defense. Dale Butland is with the liberal think-tank Innovation Ohio.

“She has no business being on the state board of education when she trolls racist right wing websites and extracts quotes that first aren’t even true and then also compare the president of the United States with Adolf Hitler.”

Innovation Ohio and the Ohio Democratic Party have both called for Terhar’s resignation because of the Facebook post. Ohio School Board member Deborah Cain did not call for Terhar’s resignation, but says she did not like the Hitler reference.

“We need to have an open dialogue on this, and to use somebody who is quite a despicable character is a shame.”

Terhar has deleted her facebook account.
