Thousands In Donations Made To Woman Charged With Stealing From Fountain

More than 14 thousand dollars has been donated online to help a Bellefontaine woman who said she stole change from a courthouse fountain to buy food. Police say 38-year-old Deirdre Romine was charged with petty theft after taking two dollars and 87 cents from a fountain at the Logan County Courthouse earlier this month. Romine has pleaded not guilty, saying she did not think the money belonged to anyone, she is jobless and trying to feed herself and her cats. Police say Romine lied when an officer questioned her and found the change. A trial is scheduled for next month.
