Three Law Enforcement Officers Plead Not Guilty In Man's Death

Two Delaware County sheriff's deputies and a State Highway Patrol trooper have pleaded not guilty to charges that they improperly dealt with an intoxicated man who was later hit and killed by a car. They face misdemeanor charges of dereliction of duty. Prosecutors say deputies Derek Beggs and Christopher Hughes found Uriel Popoca drunk in his truck in a median on I-71 in July. The deputies and trooper Sean Carpenter failed to arrest Popoca, instead taking him to a mexican fast food restaurant and telling him to call for a ride home. He was later killed by a car while walking along a road.
