Transportation Budget Includes Proposal To Raise Some Speed Limits

State transportation officials kicked off the road construction season yesterday with the announcement of 450-million-dollars in projects for the year.  Those projects include the ongoing North Side Fix along I-270, a new Cleveland Avenue Bridge over 270 and the widening of I-71 in Grove City. An amendment in the budget bill would raise speed limits on the Ohio Turnpike and rural freeways to 75-miles-per-hour.  The proposal would apply to highways that had speed limits raised to 70-miles-per-hour two years ago. The sponsors of the measure say the increase in 2013 has not resulted in more accidents or death. But the Ohio Highway Patrol says the 70 mph speed limit hasn’t been in place long enough to know that for sure.
