Treasure Hunter Thompson To Plead Guilty

wcbe files

Court documents show a fugitive deep-sea treasure hunter from Columbus will plead guilty to a contempt of court charge related to his refusal to testify about gold he recovered from a historic shipwreck. The plea agreement and a criminal information document indicate 62-year-old Tommy Thompson will plead guilty at a later date. Thompson and his girlfriend, Alison Antekeier, fled in 2012 amid demands he appear in court to testify in a lawsuit over gold recovered from the wreckage of the SS Central America shipwreck off the South Carolina Coast in the late 1980s. The two were arrested in Florida earlier this year.
