Treasure Hunter Waives Extradition To Ohio

U.S. Marshals Service

The deep-sea treasure hunter from Columbus who investors say cheated them out of millions of dollars in gold has waived extradition to Ohio. 62-year-old Tommy Thompson waived a hearing today (thursday) in Palm Beach County, Florida, where he has been in custody since his arrest last month. Thompson is charged with criminal contempt and faces a long-running civil case over his recovery of gold from the wreckage of the SS Central America 27 years ago. Extradition is expected to take place within 10 days.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
