Trial Date Set For Tea Party Lawsuit Against IRS

A California tea party group's lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service over alleged targeting will go to trial in Cincinnati in late 2017. A federal judge has scheduled a final pretrial conference for September of next year, and the trial is scheduled two months later.  The 2013 class-action lawsuit filed by NorCal Tea Party Patriots alleges violations of privacy laws and constitutional rights. The IRS inspector general said applications for tax-exempt status with such words as "tea party" and "patriots" were set aside by agency workers in Cincinnati. The IG says those are among hundreds of applications, including some from progressive groups, that languished.
