The Triple-A auto club predicts nearly 1.5 million Ohioans will travel 50 miles or more from home this Memorial Day weekend. They will join nearly 37 million other Americans making such a trip, making it the busiest Memorial Day since 2005. 89 percent of Americans, including nearly 1.4 million Ohioans will drive, which is a 2 percent increase from last year. Triple-A spokesperson Tamara Johnson credits lower unemployment, rising incomes and lower gas prices.
Johnson says travelers will see major construction projects on some Ohio roads, including I-75 in the Cincinnati, Toledo and Dayton areas. She says drivers should check their vehicles to make sure they are ready for the road.
The Ohio Highway Patrol plans to increase its presence on the roadways, and the national Click it or Ticket campaign advocating seatbelt use will be enforced.
