Troubled Defendant Sentenced For Robbing Casino Patron

Columbus Division of Police

The Columbus man who delayed for months his trial for robbing a casino winner will serve 20 years in prison. 33-year-old Wendell Watkins was sentenced this week after being convicted of stealing nearly 36 thousand dollars from a winner at the Columbus casino in 2014. He delayed his trial through unruly courthouse and jail behavior. Two other defendants, Ronald Jones and Ryan Bundy, are serving 10 year prison sentences.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
