UC Hires Monitor To Oversee Police Reforms

Associated Press

The University of Cincinnati has hired an outside monitor to oversee reform of its police department after the fatal 2015 shooting of an unarmed black motorist by a white now-former campus officer. The Board of Trustees recently hired New York consulting firm Exiger as the outside monitor for the next three years. The trustees also approved a policing standards policy to help guide the school's continuing reform efforts.  Fired officer Ray Tensing has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and voluntary manslaughter in the July 19, 2015, shooting death of 43-year-old Samuel DuBose after pulling DuBose over near campus for a missing front license plate. Jury selection in Tensing's trial begins Tuesday.
