U.S. House Approves Another Extension of Great Lakes Restoration Initiative

The U.S. House has voted to extend for an additional five years the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. The measure authorizes 300 million dollars this year for the program designed to improve water quality and resolve environmental threats. Separate votes would be needed each year to provide the funding. A similar bill has cleared a U.S. Senate committee and awaits a floor vote. Over the past seven years, the initiative has funded more than 29 hundred  projects.  In 2014, the House voted to extend the initiative for five years.
