Utica Woman Charged In Cancer Hoax Ruled Competent For Trial

The Utica woman accused of faking a cancer diagnosis for her 4-year-old son has been found competent to stand trial.31-year-old Emily Creno requested a competency evaluation and filed court paperwork to pursue an insanity plea. But a Licking County judge Wednesday said the evaluation determined Creno is able to understand court proceedings and help in her defense. It also concluded Creno does not have a mental disease or defect that would have kept her from understanding the wrongfulness of her alleged actions. Creno allegedly used the scheme to bilk people out of donations. Her trial is scheduled for March 18th.
