Columbus police officials have 'paused' the operations of the vice squad for the next four weeks to conduct an internal review.
The review follows two recent and controversial cases: the arrest this summer of porn star Stormy Daniels at a Columbus strip club and the August fatal shooting of a woman by Officer Andrew Mitchell during a prostitution sting. Deputy police chief Tim Becker says only top-level cases will be handled during the review.
Becker says the two cases expidited a review that would have been conducted anyway. Becker's boss, police Chief Kim Jacobs, says anyone with information about bad cops or about the vice squad's operations should contact police.
The vice squad has 20 officers. The review is similar to one conducted earlier this year of homicide investigations. Becker and Jacobs would not say if the continuing review of the Daniels arrest shows the political beliefs of the officers who detained her were involved. Mitchell remains on leave and is the subject of a criminal investigation.
