Vigil Held For Teen Killed By Columbus Police

Dozens of people gathered for a vigil last night on the near east side, near where a white Columbus police officer shot and killed a 13-year-old African-American boy who police say pulled a real-looking pellet gun from his waistband. Tyre King was killed during a chase Wednesday night near South 18th Avenue and Capital Street.  A pastor led the crowd in prayer and said what happened to King wasn't right. Police say King ran from officers investigating a reported armed robbery and was shot in a confrontation in an alley. Police chief Kim Jacbos say it's important to let the investigation play out and avoid comparisons to the death of 12-year-old Tamir Rice in Cleveland. Both cases involve a white police officer fatally shooting a black boy with a pellet gun.

The boy's family is calling for an independent investigation.
