The Whitehall City Schools are pulling out of the federal Race to the Top program.
District officials say they were worried about the costs of implementing new administrative and teacher evaluations in the upcoming school year. Those costs would be covered with federal grant money, but school officials say it is not enough. Race to the Top requires participating districts to implement the evaluations one year before schools that are not in the program. The Whitehall and Bexley City Schools are among 94 public and charter schools that have withdrawn from the program since 2010.
