Woman Charged With False Voter Registration In Ohio

A northeast Ohio woman accused of falsely registering more than 30 people to vote has been indicted on charges of voter registration fraud after an investigation started when election officials found at last five dead people's names among new registrations.

The Ohio Attorney General's Office reports 33-year-old Rebecca Hammonds, of East Liverpool, has been indicted by a Columbiana County grand jury. State officials say Hammonds was indicted on 32 counts of false voter registration and three counts of false signatures. Hammonds couldn't immediately be reached for comment Friday. Court records don't list an attorney for her, and no telephone listing could be found for Hammonds in East Liverpool. Authorities say Hammonds worked for an activist group helping with voter registration last year. The group says it has since fired Hammonds.
