World's Oldest Captive Gorilla Dies At Columbus Zoo

Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

The Columbus Zoo says the nation's oldest known gorilla in captivity has died. Colo was 60.  She surpassed the usual life expectancy of captive gorillas by two decades. Colo was born at the zoo in 1956. She became a mother of three, grandmother of 16, great-grandmother of 12 and great-great-grandmother of three.  Zoo officials recently removed a malignant tumor from her body and said she was doing well.
