Yellow Springs Cop Charged With Assault

A Yellow Springs police sergeant has been charged with assault for allegedly using physical force to remove a camera from a resident who was recording police activity. Police say officers were obtaining license plate information while serving an eviction notice last November when Athena Fannin came outside and questioned them. Officials say Fannin then began filming the officers' actions, and Sergeant Naomi Penrod reportedly twisted the wrists of the woman and removed her camera. Penrod is on administrative leave with pay until the case is resolved. Officials announced the charges Monday after completing a lengthy investigation.
