The Dick & Jane Project

Fridays, 11:55am during Ante Meridiem

The Dick & Jane Project is a non-profit organization based in Columbus, Ohio. We host workshops where middle school students are partnered with professional musicians to create radio ready songs.

The students write the lyrics, the musicians compose and record the music, and together they collaborate with student designers and journalists on the production of a professionally recorded song. To date, the Dick & Jane Project has worked with over 250 students throughout Columbus, and has professionally produced 32 songs, all of which have been played on the radio. Tune in every Friday at 11:55am during Ante Meridiem to hear a new song from the Dick & Jane Project!

Dick and Jane Song of the Week: Reach

Jul 2, 2014

Hello? Can you hear me out there? Alright.
Let me be the first one to tell you,
Be yourself, Don’t ever fall down, Speak up, Shout out
for what you believe in
let everybody know who you are
and I promise you’ll go very far

Getting ready for battle and
He’s trying to hold his ground
His heart is racing
Numb with fear and doubt

The reign of bullets begin
as missiles streak the sky
Everything’s about to change
in the blink of an eye

Dick and Jane Song of the Week: I Love Nature

Jun 13, 2014

I love nature because of the beautiful colors.
I love nature because nature is pink.
I like the colors because of the green in the trees.
The colors are lovely just the way they are.

I love nature because of the beautiful sounds.
I love nature because the sounds are so funny.
I just think to myself, ”they’re magnificent.”
The birds chirp and sing ’cause that’s the way they are.

Dick and Jane Song of the Week: I Love You

Jun 11, 2014

You see me and I see you
You just got to know that I love you
You will be with me
For the rest of your life
And I promise I will be there day and night no matter what happens

Cause you need to know that I love you
I want you to love me like I do
Cause you need to know that I love you

I love the way you bring happiness down upon the earth
Every time I look at you I feel so happy inside
You say that you are the one for me but you know you’ve got to prove it

Dick and Jane Song of the Week: Invisible

Jun 9, 2014

Look over here.
Look over there.
Look everywhere.
Do you see me sittin’ there?
Do I have to stare?
Let me close the door of opportunity.
Do I have to be noticed in a picture?
‘Cause you don’t see me.

Am I invisible?
Am I invisible?
Am I invisible?
Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh.
Am I invisible?

Dick and Jane Song of the Week: Without You

Jun 6, 2014

Lyin' here, in tears,
I never thought I would see,
A time when you weren't part of me.
You meant so much to me.
And now that you are gone, I feel empty.

Growing up, facing fears,
Never thought there'd be a day,
That I'd see you go away.
You always taught me.
And now that you are gone, I can't sleep.

The memories are in my heart, Even though we're far apart.
Staring at the door. Don't know what to do anymore.
Staying up. Being tough.
Trynna make it through....
Without you.
Without you.

Dick and Jane Song of the Week: Need to Know

Jun 4, 2014

How much longer can this really go down?
I'm hearing you fight from dusk 'til dawn,
Just wanting it all to move on
and im scared all over again.

If I try to fix it,
it wouldn't really work,
i'd only makes things worse and then
i'm scared all over again.

i need to know (repeat)
how far can this go? (repeat)

i need to know
how far can this go?

When what I want to say
won't come out the right way.
it comes out and goes back in
and i'm scared all over again

Dick and Jane Song of the Week: Rampage

Jun 2, 2014

You don't know me and I don't know you
You look at me and I'm looking through you
But as you can see there is nothing you can do
Because I am me and you are who?

I'm trying to make it to the top
So stop trying to make me feel bad
for the things you couldn't do
I'm trying to make this flow
So when the time comes I can make the dough

Dick and Jane Song of the Week: Lost Thoughts

May 30, 2014

 La-la-la-Lost, lost, lost, lost
All of these Thoughts, thoughts, thoughts, thoughts

In a dream,
In the wild-wide open country
My only friend
The sun was shining

(Ba-bum-ba-bum-bum)
Bumble-jumble
All of these thoughts, thoughts, thoughts, thoughts

Help them out,
write it down-
but first,
I'll put them to good use...

La-la-la-Lost, lost, lost, lost
All of these Thoughts, thoughts, thoughts, thoughts

Dick and Jane Song of the Week: Change My Stars

May 28, 2014

My baby blanket was a quilt

Of stars stitched into silly shapes
I wish that iIcould see them now
While darkness falls onto my chest

I can't find my Northern Star
To guide me through the night
I see twisted reflections of the moon
That try to lead me astray

I can't change my stars,
Can't change my stars.
No matter how far I fly,
I am alone in the sky.
I can't see what's ahead, so
How can I find it beautiful?

Dick and Jane Song of the Week: Raindrops

May 28, 2014

It’s time to find where you want to be.

It’s time to be who I want to be.
It’s time to find where you want to be.
It’s time to be who I want to be.
I'm not some stranger on the street.
A lot of people know me.
I’m not just another face.
It’s time for me to take my place.

Oh, it’s time to be me.
What I do, it’s all a mystery to you.
What I like, who I love,
you don’t know what I want to do.
I am not like those others.
No, I’m not another one of those…

Hip Hop

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LYRICS

Yo, yo listen up. I’m gonna tell you ‘bout the process of photosynthesis.

I’m a tall green plant sitting in the sun, absorbing nutrients and having fun! You may think it’s boring, you may think it’s lame, but I’m a plant and that’s my name. Now, how I got green that’s a story to tell. It’s my little friend called chlorophyll.

Dick and Jane Song of the Week: "No Me Gustan Pantalones"

No Me Gustan Pantalones

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rock

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LYRICS

We like shorts because we have great legs and we can’t do splits in our pants. We like shorts because it gets too hot and we can’t express ourselves.

Gymnasts wear shorts, not pants. Climbers wear shorts, not pants. Old dudes wear pants.

Dick and Jane Song of The Week: "Beauty and the Black Sky"

Beauty in the Black Sky

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Folk

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LYRICS

I wake to the sound of the seagulls calling. The sun is still below the mountain range. I hear the captain yelling orders, and the day I know is here again.

I Love You Too

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Swing

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LYRICS

He looks at her and she looks at him. She wonders where, where he’d been. He hopes her heart’s not taken. She hopes she won’t end up breaking again.

He takes her hand, and she can’t stand to think he’d ever leave her. He says the day he leaves is the day he stops to breathe. He never wants to see his baby cry.
