The Global Village

While we may not agree as to whether new recording technology makes music better or worse (see Douglas Wolk's fantastic essay), I think we'd all be willing to admit that technology has made making music a whole lot easier, cheaper and more accessible. We can be more agile, impulsive, nimble, reactionary and spontaneous than ever before. Right? Well, that's the idea anyway.

So let's try!

The 20-year Austin veteran, Guy Forsyth, will join us live from Studio A during The Global Village!

The Native American blues rock group, Indigenous will play a few songs live during The Global Village ahead of their show that night at The Rumba Cafe! 

Reggae/pop/rock outfit, The Aggrolites, will perform a few songs live from Studio A during The Global Village and that night at Kobo Live!  

The contemporary folk duo, The Two Man Gentlemen Band, mixing folk with hot jazz, swing, Tin Pan Alley, vaudeville and more into their repertoire,  will perform live in the 2PM hour during The Global Village! 

Langhorne Slim & The Law is on tour in support of their latest CD, The Way We Move, and they'll be making a stop at WCBE before their show at Ace Of Cups that night. 

Marco Benevento, pianist/sound-sculptor/songwriter,  will join us Live From Studio A during the Global Village on Friday afternoon and play a few songs for you!  The new album is Tiger Face and he's touring in support of it and making a stop at Woodland's that night!  Also performing that night will be the Mike Dillon Band.  Tune in for a chance to win tickets!

Steve Kimock, joined by Bernie Worrell, Wally Ingram and Andy Hess, will perform live from Studio A during the Global Village in the 2pm hour! 

Mike Rosenberg, also known by his stage name Passenger, met with Maggie and I in Studio A last Monday. While I listened in on his interview, this Brighton, England native poured out the story behind his new album All the Little Lights. Rosenberg was notably one of my first personal encounters with a British artist, let alone a folksy one who "busks."

Mark Erelli is currently touring with Lori McKenna opening for and playing with her. Both will be performing that night at the Shedd Theatre at the Columbus Performing Arts Center.

The Phillip Fox Band will showcase a few new tunes during the Global Village in the 2PM hour! 

Skerik's Bandalabra will play a few songs live from Studo A during the Global Village and you'll have a chance to win tickets for their show that night @ Woodland's Tavern! 

Justin Jones, from Rawley Springs, VA., will play a few songs live from Studio A during The Global Village!

Born in Atlanta, and based in New York, Ron Pope,  former frontman for the band The District will perform some of his material.

UK born and bred yet very much the adopted Australian son singer songwriter Mike Rosenberg, will play live from Studio A in the 2pm hour on The Global Village. 

The members of Sauti Sol rehearse in a cramped recording studio above a chapati restaurant off a noisy highway in Nairobi. Bien-Aime Baraza, Delvin Mudigi and Willis Chimano — the founding members, all 25 — have been friends since they sang together as part of a gospel ensemble in high school. When they graduated in 2005, they didn't want to stop singing, so they formed Sauti Sol. Sauti is Swahili for voice, while sol is Spanish for sun. "Voices of light."
