The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio has rejected legal arguments by the state's four electric utilities seeking to avoid returning proceeds from the federal tax cut to customers through rate reductions.

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio has approved a request by Columbus-based American Electric Power to remotely disconnect the electricity of 132 thousand central Ohio customers who have smart meters but have not paid their bills.

J.D. Power and Associates' annual customer satisfaction report ranks Columbus-based American Electric Power 14th out of 16 electric utilities in the Midwest. 

250-thousand Ohioans are still without power and some schools are closed or delayed as the remnants of Hurricane Sandy brought high winds and snow to some parts of the state overnight. Columbus-based American Electric Power says three-thousand Central Ohio customers were without service overnight, with no word on when it would be restored.
