JazzSet Remembers Mulgrew Miller

Jean Francois Laberine via NPR.org

Coming up this Sunday, JazzSet remembers pianist Mulgrew Miller (1955-2013) as Artist-in-Residence at the 2010 Detroit Jazz Festival. Picture it: outdoors and downtown on Labor Day weekend, Miller is everywhere, playing and teaching and being interviewed, and he's smiling. From that weekend, he leads his group Wingspan and plays two-piano duets with Kenny Barron on JazzSet.

Tune in for this special edition of JazzSet, as we remember Mulgrew Miller, this Sunday at 2pm on 90.5 FM, WCBE Columbus, followed by Jazz Sunday starting  at 3pm.

9am: Backstory: Mission Accomplished - How Wars End
The declaration of "Mission Accomplished" in Iraq was famously premature. But have America's other wars had neat or definitive endings?  In this episode, BackStory looks at prominent conflicts of the last three centuries, and explores what it takes to end a war -- both in legal terms, and in the popular imagination.

New Newark Signal Announced - 106.3 FM!

We're back in Newark!  After years of searching, researching, and wrangling, WCBE is on the air in the Newark/Granville area once again.  Our return required a frequency move:  we're now broadcasting there at 106.3 FM.

The geography of the area blocks our main frequency of 90.5 FM.  When we had to power down several years ago due to interference with a new rock station in Columbus, listeners in that "blacked-out" region could no longer tune in to our dulcet tones and tunes.  We're persistent broadcast buggers, though, and we've kept working at the issue ever since.

Hello, listeners!

Due to recent developments, WCBE will no longer be broadcasting at our former 106.7 FM, Newark signal. At this time, we are trying to acquire another frequency in this area. By mid-October,  we hope to hear whether or not our licenses both in Newark and Columbus are renewed.
