Democrat Introduces Bill To Help Closed Plant, But Republicans Are Cautious

Hundreds of workers who lost their jobs with the shutdown of an aluminum smelting plant in Southeast Ohio are hopingĀ for help from the state.

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio is allowing Hannibal-based aluminum manufacturer Ormet Corporation to defer electric bill payments for the remainder of the year.

Hannibal-based aluminum manufacturer Ormet says it needs deeper discounts from Columbus-based American Electric Power to avoid laying off it's 1-thousand workers.
