Ohio has become the first state in the nation to outlaw the use of plywood on abandoned and vacant properties.

The Franklin County land bank, the Columbus land bank and the Central Ohio Community Improvement Corporation plan to spend nearly 21 million dollars to demolish more than 11 hundred vacant and abandoned homes by the year 2020.


A central Ohio nonprofit organization that buys and rehabilitates abandoned homes has finished its first renovation.

Columbus city officials say the effort to demolish or rehabilitate abandoned houses has reduced the number of vacant buildings by one thousand since 2012.
